Are there any optometrists that will polish the lenses?

I have scratches on my glasses, and have no job or insurance to pay for new glasses. Someone suggested that an optometrist might do this for FREE. I am in the western suburbs of Chicago. Does anyone know of any place that will do this?

How definitive are cavities? I saw two dentists and each told me I had cavities in different teeth. ?
